Secret Meetings on the Unitary Authority

It has come to our attention, that a series of “Hush-Hush” meetings are about to take place in Cornwall, on the Unitary Authority, called by the Electoral Commission.
They will take place on the 12th February 2008, at a venue at Delabole, North Cornwall in the morning, and at another venue at Pool, near Redruth in the afternoon of the same day.
Our information is that only chief executives and senior council officers and chosen councillors are to be allowed to be present.
The public will not be allowed to attend.
It transpires that councillors at all levels have been told that they have no choice, the Unitary Authority is going to happen, in spite of all objections and that people have to go along with it.
This is patent nonsense.
We live in a Free Democracy.
None of us has “got to” do any such thing.
The Unitary Authority for Cornwall can only take place, if the councillors and our employed officers of our councils, let those who are determined to have their way carry on and foist it upon us – a thing they have absolutely no right to do.
The right, and only thing for all councillors to do, is to carry out their duty to the electorate and to publicly turn their backs on the whole thing and refuse to take part. If they do not, the People of Cornwall will never be able to trust any of them ever again and the Unitary Authority will be nothing more than yet another dictatorship.
