UKIP, the EU and Rural Britain.
Dear Sir,
Look, this is getting very difficult. Quite a few people have said to me that UKIP is obsessed with the EU state taking over and that, though 75% of our law now originates from Brussels, UKIP should be focussing on other things! Housing, local issues, transport, for example. I have tried really hard. Honest. Then, as if by magic, more and more absolute madness from the EU appears in the media and I am back to square one.
Who honestly can say a sensible word of support in defence of these ridiculous regulations forcing bus companies to stop their drivers driving every 30 miles? It is utter lunacy.
I am aware though that some have suggested is that it is all exaggerated, and that by having more drivers or a tacho fitted this problem can be easily overcome. True, but then why should they have to? What these people are exhibiting, quite rightly, is the Great British strength of dealing with the problem – finding a solution – and getting on with it, regardless of the madness of the rules.
The solutions are admirable ones. It still remains, however, that this ridiculous regulation (regardless of the arguments over the precise meaning of the impact of the rules) is still here and still imposed on us. We have had not the right to vote on it, even from within the transport industry. It has just appeared, and we as good citizens of the EU have to abide by it. If you are happy with that, then okay. I guarantee to you that soon though another regulation will come into your life from the same source that you will not be happy with. The answer – next time you get to use a ballot paper – put a cross next to the UKIP candidate. It is sad we are the only voting option you have to stop this rubbish ruining our lives by withdrawing from EU political control!
Yours faithfully,
