Offers of Help
Thank you so much to those of you who are volunteering to help us in so many ways. Your support and enthusiasm make such a difference and it is really exciting to feel the momentum growing. We know many people have the same concerns as us but it takes time to reach them and explain how they can get involved. There are still many people out there who feel slightly embarrassed to be associated with us because of negative remarks from professional politicians over the years but it really feels as though we are beginning to get past this. I believe this is because we are out and about, being seen as sensible, reasonable people who just believe strongly that we should govern ourselves. The more we do this, the more we are breaking down the negative perception of the party, helped, of course, by our very able, friendly and sociable leader.
I have more ‘pins on my map’ * but would like at least fifty more by the end of the year. Will you be a pin for me? Just call, write or e-mail to let me know and we can discuss how we can work together.
- Steph has a map of the constituency on which she is marking the location of helpers and supporters for the election campaign when it is called. Each volunteer has their own pin on her map.

Stephanie McWilliam UKIP PPC
Stephanie McWilliam is a 57 year old widow with two grown up daughters. Her family moved from Bristol to Cornwall in 1963 so she considers herself very nearly adopted Cornish! She was a radiographer for 30 years, then a management consultant and is now starting up a new company to provide a better option for business travellers. She is also a volunteer visitor for the Injured Jockeys Fund and plays clarinet in the local orchestra.
She describes herself as honest, optimistic and calm but can be determined, vocal and opinionated. She believes her redeeming features here are a good sense of humour and the ability to disagree with someone without falling out with them.
Stephanie joined the UK Independence Party in 2002, having previously voted Conservative but never having joined the party. She was a passive member until last year, when she stood in the local council elections and became a committee member for the S. E. Cornwall branch.
She believes we have far too many regulations, mainly from the EU, telling us what we can and can’t do, what we can say and increasingly what we must think and believe. As a result, too many people are abdicating all responsibility for their own actions and lives, leaving everything to the State. She is deeply concerned that, as a result, tens of thousands of people are leaving this country every month to live abroad.
In broad terms, then, she believes in individual responsibility, small government and low taxes.
Stephanie thinks the most important issues are tax and the economy, migration – in both directions – and law and order. In all of these areas, she sees our membership of the EU as a disadvantage, hampering our ability to make the right decisions for the UK.
One of her main concerns is the lack of engagement in the political process by our young people and she is currently organising a cross-party event for the under thirties across the county.

Calling Saltash Members and Supporters
We are very aware that we are not doing enough to keep in touch with our members and supporters. This seems to be particularly true in the Saltash area. We know you are out there but would welcome suggestions as to how we communicate. Please let me know if you would like us to write to you, telephone, send e-mails or texts. Would you like us to arrange meetings? If so, when and where should they be held? In a hall, a pub or someone’s home? Is there anyone out there who has good organisational skills and would volunteer to be a local co-ordinator? Do please let us know so that we can work together.
Many thanks for the work you do on this.
Kind regards,
Steph
