UK INDEPENDENCE PARTY NEW TEAM - FIRST OUTING AT UNIVERSITY COLLEGE FALMOUTH

The new local team from United Kingdom Independence Party, now the 4th largest political party, was invited to University College Falmouth for their Political Fair 31st January.

The event, hopefully the first of many, was organised by Steve Whiting of the Student’s Union based on the Tremough campus. It was a complete success; it gave students the first opportunity to question the UK Independence Party constituency and youth team and see their new information stand.

Glen Corcoran, the UK Independence Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Falmouth and Truro was very impressed by the students “It was gratifying to meet so many people who were both well informed and interested in the issues that affect our society today. I would like to say ‘well done’ to those who came up and spoke to us – I am sure it was a bit daunting for students to come up to ask questions – I am glad that so many did!”

Lisa Duffy, the National Leader of Young Independence (UK Independence Party) which represents 18-35 year olds, was also present at the event and was able to talk first hand to students about what is happening nationally with UKIP.

“We wouldn’t normally get such a high powered member of the UKIP National Executive to come to such and event” said Glen Corcoran “Fortunately she understood the level of importance to our local youth and was able to fit us into her busy schedule. We are also now important as Cornwall is a huge growth area for UKIP support. The UKIP team nationally recognises this”

Lisa Duffy was interviewed by the Media Studies students for their in-house television station, whilst both Glen and Lisa took part in interviews for University radio.

“I think Jeremy Paxman needs to watch out!” said Glen “I think there are some very talented students who are after his job. I was thoroughly interviewed on a number of topics and they were certainly very good. I needed a good pasty and a lie down afterwards to recover!”

The UK Independence Party is now keen to offer their team to other colleges and schools for assistance with political studies – they can be contacted via Glen.Corcoran @ UKIPCornwall.org.uk (delete the spaces) or at 28 Lemon Street, Truro, TR1 2LS.

Annual General Meeting a Success

At a packed Annual General meeting in their premises in Truro, the new Committee and officers for the Truro & Falmouth constituency of the UK Independence Party were voted in.

This follows the recent explosion of support for the UK Independence Party brought about by, amongst other things, the lack of a referendum on the European Union Treaty. The UK Independence Party is the only political party that is wholly committed to withdrawing from the newly emerging European Union ‘State’.

The chairman Mrs Tina Purseglove said that although she was new to politics she was part of a new wave of hard-working businesspeople who have agreed to stand up and try and make a difference to stop things in Cornwall and in the county getting ‘worse’, in their view.

She has committed herself to the challenge of getting the UKIP Prospective Candidate, Mr Glen Corcoran voted in as the new MP for Falmouth and Camborne at the next general election.
Glen made a stirring speech and outlined how UKIP were determined to get the people of Cornwall a better deal, and stop the closure of vital services throughout the county. He attacked the Lib/Dems in their support of the Labour government in their refusal to allow a referendum on the EU constitutional treaty saying that it is a fundamental change to our country, handing over how we are Governed to a ‘foreign power’ in Brussels.

Jeff Mager the Cornwall County Chairman congratulated both Tina and Glen and went on to say that UKIP are shortly rolling out across the South West a campaign aimed at stopping the EU constitutional being ratified by Westminster. He issued a plea for anyone who wanted to help (or even find out more about UKIP’s view of the ‘Lisbon Treaty’) to email: Glen.Corcoran@UKIPcornwall.org.uk.
